The Eye Certification Registry (ECR) is a joint effort between the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. Each examination screens for ocular diseases that are considered inherited and differ between dog breeds. Because inherited eye diseases can develop at any time during an animal’s lifetime, ECR examinations can be performed as early as 6 – 8 weeks of age and are valid for 1 year.
Examinations are scheduled for an individual animal or litter. Clients arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment time to fill out the OFA exam forms and to allow time for pupil dilation. Clients bring along all AKC registration paperwork, including microchip information, if indicated.
